The Kenwood TM-D710A is a "multi-communicator", dual band VHF/UHF transceiver that in addition to FM voice
communications, it's data ready and supports the latest Echolink, AX.25, APRS, and supports the popular Kenwood
Skycommand System II (make your own personal repeater and/or operate your HF radio remotely) protocols! So it
supports more advanced communication modes than the typical dual band mobile ham radio. It's definitely one
of the most advanced models ever made by Kenwood!
The Kenwood TM-D710A is actually a
dual-band with a true dual receive! You can use both receivers to receive or monitor both bands at the
same time, or even monitor two frequencies on the same band if you want! As you can see in the
display, this Kenwood D710's display provides a lot of information to the user. The menus are easy to get
too, however due to all the forms of voice/data communications and Echolink and APRS features this
amateur radio supports, there is a lot of information it can display! For those don't like the green
background color, in the menu you can change the display's color to orange in a snap.
Additional features of the Kenwood TM-D710A
include 1,000 memories, so I doubt you'll run out of room for your favorites with this one! As far as
power, it produces 50 watts out and comes with three power settings (low, medium, and high) to choose
from.
