The Yaesu FT-2800m is a powerful 65 watt 2 meter mobile transceiver that is still modern in design (and pretty much the same as the FT-2900 that replaced it in 2009).  Both simplex and split repeater operations are a snap and it also supports the new Yaesu WIRES internet linking technology, for those hams that are into that type of thing.  It's nice to have a whooping 65 watts of hard power on 2 meters; however for those that like to conserve power, it actually comes with a total of 4 power levels that you can adjust on the fly which is as follows: 5, 10, 25, and 65 watts of transmitter power!  You get a lot of radio for your money with this model and for simplex and repeater operations it's just as good as the new model that replaced it just recently.  Check out current inventory at the links above or below.

For those that like to monitor the weather and/or tornado/storm chasers, the Yaesu FT-2800m amateur radio transceiver receives the weather bands, plus has a neat feature that automatically monitors 10 weather channels and alerts you if a 1050hz tone (indicating a weather warning) is ever received.  The 1050 Hz tone is the standard tone that all weather channels transmit to announce a warning!  Perfect for emergency crew and the amateur storm chasers!
