The Yaesu FT-757GX is an all solid state, well built HF transceiver made throughout the 80s. It
wasn't the most fancy ham radio, however it works all modes (AM, FM, SSB, and CW) and has both decent
receive and transmit audio! The top mounted, large sized speaker works well, and the transmit
audio is very clean (even in AM mode). It seems to have wider audio in this mode, which means
higher fidelity if done right. With the right mic, this is probably one of the best solid state ham
radios out there for AM modulation in my opinion. It also shines very well in SSB as well!
As you can see from the picture, the Yaesu FT-757GX MK1 was actually well built!
Looking at the massive heat sink at the back, you can tell the final transistors have more than an ample
amount of heat dissipation!, In addition to this, it has solid knobs and buttons which translates
to a radio that was built to last! Although not a large sized transceiver, the Yaesu FT-757GX has
some significant weight to it due to being solidly built! The buttons are all laid out and the features
are easy to select with just a push or turn of a knob (no complicated menus here, like the new
radios today) which means a less complicated setup to fuss with.
